Mount Mainalo is a mountain full of forests right at the center of the Peloponnese. Homeland of the god Pan and lair of the nymphs, it is associated with many ancient myths. In recent years, it became a refuge but also a base for all sorts of insurgents with the most famous being Theodoros Kolokotronis, the protagonist of the Greek revolution against the Turks in 1821. Its dense forests, old bridges and picturesque villages make up a landscape ideal for hiking. The path from the village Elati to the village Vitina (which is part of a huge trekking of 75 km (46 miles) named Mainalon Trail) is the most beautiful on the mountain because it combines many elements. There are some spots that really make you think you’re inside a fairytale. The local communities created a 75km (46 miles) hiking trail with great attention to detail. The fairy-tale forests, rivers, traditional villages and many other cultural elements we encounter are the characteristics of this course. Suitable for active families. Greece in general has warm and humid summers lasting from May till October. In May and October weather can be less predictable with some rain and chilly temperatures being possible especially in the
Greek mainland. Greek summers are generally hot, with temperatures rarely getting lower than 25 degrees Celsius in most of our destinations, while temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius during the
day are not unheard of in July and August. In the open sea, weather can be tough to predict all year round, but in the summer the seas are generally calm and ideal for sailing. Generally, cool temperatures
and occasional rainfalls occur especially at night, especially in the mountains, a fact that you have to take into account when packing for your adventure.
