Walk along the history! Come and walk along one of the oldest trails in Outer Laconian Mani, created before the 2nd century B.C.
It is famous for its diversity, its magnificent view and its unusual archaeological site, “Royal Stones and paths”following traditional settlements, Ancient city and monasteries in ruins.
Exo Nymfi, is a settlement of Municipality of Eastern Mani. The settlement has retained its traditional color with many Mani towers and tower houses that are maintained in good condition. The beaches of Alipa and Gialos are ideal for swimming.
The one hour ascent from the settlement of Vigla in Exo Nymfio to the area of Ancient Kournos and the Byzantine Monastery of the Virgin Mary of Kournos (Panagia Kournos) is demanding but charming. Another 20 minutes’ walk can take us to ancient Aigila.
The few abandoned remains of ancient Aigila, at the site of Kionia or Vassilikes Petres. It was here, as Pausanias wrote, that there was a sacred temple of Dimitra which was demolished in the the 16th century by the abbot of the Kournos Monastery.
A hike back in time with outstanding views and old royal stoned paths !!
