Each day you will discover a new suprise : a known or hidden landscape or hood, a traditional village or a new route at the plenty ravines,  will amaze you with the rich cultural diversity which provide you.

Messinian Mani..
the Land of traditional stoned villages , tower stoned houses and castles, wild and untamed !!
A land of tower houses, castles, ancient sites, Byzantine chapels, beautiful beaches and spectacular ravines in the Messinian Mani Peloponnese

Dry, bare and rugged. Mani is the land of the prickly pear, bristling with forbidding tower houses, stone villages, Byzantine chapels, delightful coves and astonishing caves. The people here are frugal and close-knit, still adhering to traditions, centuries-old bloodlines and family ties.

Barricaded behind the crags of Mt Taygetos , the fortified stoned towers and ready for battle, the Maniots developed a powerful sense of autonomy, answerable to no one. What you see today is only what they consider permissible and acceptable. But you’ll be overwhelmed with images of authentic Greece because here, in this far corner of Peloponnese,in the Messinian Mani, everything is dramatic and bewitching.

Taygetos, the imperious mountain of Peloponnese ..
Taygetos Mountain is the highest mountain range of Peloponnese which combines beautiful hiking routes, picturesque mountainous villages, creeks, stone bridges and trees. The top of the mountain is called “Profitis Ilias” (Prophet Elias) and is located at 2.407 meters altitude. From Taygetos begin two rivers, Evrotas River which flows in the Laconian Gulf and Nedontas River which flows in the Messenian Gulf.

The name Taygetos derives from “Taygeti” who was the daughter of Pleionis and Atlantas according to Greek Mythology. During Byzantine period the mountain was also called “Pentadaktylos” which means “five fingers” in Greek. The name was related to the 5 tops of the mountain range.
The mountain provides plenty of hiking routes which are well signposted and attract a lot of travelers all year , especially during the summer period.

Athens, the capital and largest city of Greece..
Learn and meet the spirit of the capital and birthplace of Democracy !!
Athens dominates the Attica region and is one of the world’s oldest cities, with its recorded history spanning over 3,400 years and its earliest human presence started somewhere between the 11th and 7th millennium BC.

Classical Athens was a powerful city-state. A center for the arts, learning and philosophy, home of Platon’s Academy and Aristotle’s Lyceum, it is widely referred to as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy, largely because of its cultural and political impact on the European continent, and in particular the Romans. In modern times, Athens is a large cosmopolitan metropolis and central to economic, financial, industrial, maritime, political and cultural life in Greece.

Breakfast and departure with your late model bus to the Mani area. After 1 hour we will arrive at Kardamyli.Kardamili is a spectacularly beautiful seaside village located in the Mani, a stunning region in the southern Peloponnese, the coast of Greece defined by travel connoisseurs as the New Côte d'Azur. Set dramatically against a backdrop of crystalline aqua-blue waters, majestic cypress trees, wild olive groves, verdant rolling hills and distant snowcapped mountains, it is one of the prettiest of villages that overlook the calm seas and splendid sunsets of the Messinian Gulf.

Beautiful circular trek on the foot of the imposing Taygetus Mount, with recurrent views on the intensely blue Aegean Sea on the Kalamata or Messinia Golf; beginning and ending in the nice, unspoiled, marine and Greek-Venetian designed village of Kardamyli passing through Old Kardamyli, with its noticeable venetian church of Saint Spyridon and the imposing maniot tower of Mourtzinos with destination at the byzantine hermitage of Agia Sofia, and return by the olive groves of Petrovouni.
We will start our gorgeous two-three hours loop walk.A walk in the past : Old Kardamili can today be reached on foot by leaving the village main street just next to the bridge and following the path that leads up to a main gateway. You quickly arrive at the 18th century church of Aghios Spiridon (Saint Spiridon), whose slender 17 metre-tall bell tower bears ornamental designs depicting the sun and moon, the stars, concentric circles and a double eagle. Further along, there are more fortified houses and the small chapel of Aghios Theodoros (Saint Theodore). As you walk back down towards modern Kardamili, you pass through enchanting olive groves and fruit orchards and see the last tower-houses that now belong to the descendants of the Troupakis-Mourtzinos patriarchs: the Dimitreas, Petreas and Theodoreas families. The fortified enclave has been recently converted into a beautiful museum. Follow the signs to Old Town Kardamyli, then take the old stone path hat leads up to the Agia Sofia church. On our route you will see ,the two-chamber tomb of Dioskouroi is carved in a vertical, natural rock. They are two rectangular cavities, next to each other, 1,20x 0,60 in dimension and 1 meter in depth. According to the morphological elements, the tomb dates to the Hellenistic period, (3rd-2ndcentury B.C.). The visitor, in order to reach the settlement, has to follow the path from the Old Kardamyli towards the area of Agia Sopfia. We shall point out that the entrance to the interior of the tombs is forbidden.According to the description of Strabo, the tombs belong to the twin brothers Castor and Pollux, mythical children of Leda, (queen of Sparta), and Zeus. According to another legend, the tombs belong to the heroes Nikomachos and Gorgasos, sons of Machaon, (son of Asclepius), who had healing abilities.Follow the path down through an enchanted forest section (tangled vegetation, scent of pine) towards Petrovouni, with a fantastic view of the coast en route. It is located on the slope of the mountain, in the pines. The layout of the settlements was chosen old for fortification. We start our hiking day from Tseria through Vyros Gorge to Kardamyli.
The Vyros Gorge is a deep river gorge situated in the 'Outer Mani' region of the Peloponnese in southern Greece. It runs from the foot of Profitis Ilias to Kardamyli. In Summer it remains bone dry, however in winter it is known to flood spectacularly, turning into a river which often carries debris such as tree branches and rocks to its mouth in the town of Kardamili, where it empties into the Messenian Gulf, a part of the Ionian Sea.On our way we have we will pass and visit Kato Chora,Byzantine church of Agia Sofia.Follow the path down through an enchanted forest section (tangled vegetation, scent of pine) towards Petrovouni, with a fantastic view of the coast en route. Day 4: Kardamyli - Moni Sotiros - Vyros Gorge - Kardamyli (Hiking tour).

Breakfast and departure for our hiking tour from Kardamyli to Moni Sotiros and Vyros Gorge. The Viros Gorge is a sublime experience. This hike starts in Kardamyli, going up the Viros Gorge for about 5 km as far as Sotiros Monastery, then climbs out of the gorge on a good road and descends to Kardamyli via Agia Sofia church. There's no path in the gorge, you walk on cobbles in the dry riverbed. The walking is not difficult, but it's often slow. You pass a number of caves in the canyon walls. The landscape at first isn't dramatic, but the gorge narrows and deepens as you ascend, with overhanging walls draped with stalactites.

There are a few places where blue/white paint blazes direct you out of the riverbed onto a path, but these just seem to be for high water conditions, and it's easier to remain in the riverbed. Sotiros Monastery is apparently unoccupied, and was all locked up. The climb out of the gorge is on a road, and you stay on roads until Agia Sofia. Beyond that, it's mostly kalderimi paths back to Kardamyli.

In fact the name “Dimiova” in Slav means a land where the crocus bulb grows, which we can still see today growing in the springtime in the monastery’s forest.

It is estimated that the monastery was built during the early decades of the 17th century, but there is already testimony of the existence of its church back in the 15th century, as is there reference that it was torched by the Turks in 1463 during the Turkish-Venetian war.Time for rest and visit.Transfer by bus to Kalamata.Arrival check-in our hotel in Kalamata,Free time. The historical center of the city is full of restaurants and cafes anf offer great proposals for your night.
